Phonological Awareness and Reading Skills |
|
What is phonological awareness? Phonological awareness is the awareness of the sounds of speech that prepares a child to match speech sounds to its written alphabetic symbol. Phonological awareness is a precursor to developing strong reading and writing skills.
Treatment - Treatment may consist of direct teaching of the letter-sound relationship using various techniques including rhyming, alliteration, and sound play. Therapy sessions may include word games, flash card drill, and listening activities using a variety of materials including the child’s own school work (if available). Activities and strategies will be provided for home practice.
